Commissioners said Bell’s new position requires evening hours that conflict with the commission’s regular meeting night. David, a city staff member who introduced the proposal, told the commission he wanted to “offer Cynthia a 3 month leave of absence” so the commission would not need to count missed meetings against her during that period.
Commissioners clarified how the leave would operate: if Bell is able to attend a meeting during the leave, the commission will extend the leave by one additional monthly meeting so she may still miss a total of three meetings without penalty. The motion was seconded and carried; the chair called “All in favor? Aye. Any opposed?” and the motion was recorded as carried.
The leave preserves Bell’s membership and was framed by commissioners as a temporary measure while the member’s startup role stabilizes. No additional conditions or dates beyond the three-month period were specified in the motion.
The commission moved on to roll call and routine business after the vote.
