Committee hears county communications, broadband and tourism updates

Dunn County communications staff said they issued a broadband-related press story that received local pickup and a release about the financial status of a neighboring nursing home; communications staff offered to circulate press releases to supervisors on request. “We can add that, to all the supervisors,” the communications representative said when asked about distributing press releases.
On broadband, county staff said the county board had endorsed two providers and that Mosaic will hold a public engagement session on Feb. 20 in the town of Hay River to support their grant application. Staff also noted ongoing work by a provider, NextGen Broadband, to bring fiber to parts of New Haven and Tiffany townships and that grant and county funds have been allocated to some projects.
On tourism, staff reported that the county’s tourism website was transitioned to a site shared with and managed by Explore Menomonie; the county will pay its last bill for the prior site and allow Explore Menomonie to manage the combined platform to extend rural reach.
Committee members asked that communications releases be circulated to supervisors, and county staff said they would work to ensure supervisors receive relevant weekly summaries and press materials.
The committee took no formal action on these items; they were informational updates.
