Needham bylaws subcommittee discusses three nominees, will contact Eric Bailey about open seat

The subcommittee of the Town of Needham General Bylaws Committee discussed three self-nominations to fill an open member seat at its Jan. 24 meeting and members said they will contact Eric Bailey about serving.

Members said Bruce Eisenhardt, Paul Seigenthaler and Eric Bailey put themselves forward for the vacancy. Connie (subcommittee member) said the three candidates are well known in town government and that the choice was difficult: “I think it’s a difficult choice because they are all folks that we know well who have participated in town government in various ways. Perhaps one seems to have a little more bylaw experience, but common sense is huge,” she said.

A committee member noted that Eric Bailey (self-nominated) has done bylaw work for his Unitarian Universalist Church and that Bailey’s comments at Town Meeting tend to be “very precise and narrow,” which the member said is an asset for a committee focused on bylaw text. The member also said Bruce Eisenhardt’s Planning Board experience would be useful and that Paul Seigenthaler has been active in town committees and the CPA.

Committee members said they would reach out to Karen and notify Miles and Kate to see if Bailey can be available for the subcommittee’s Monday evening meeting. No formal motion or vote to appoint a member was recorded in the transcript. The subcommittee’s next step is outreach to confirm a candidate’s willingness to serve.

The discussion focused on candidate experience with bylaws and attention to detail rather than policy positions. Aside from the nominations and follow-up outreach, no other substantive action was taken during the recorded portion of the meeting.
