Sammamish council approves termination of civil emergency declared after November storm

The Sammamish City Council on Jan. 21 approved the city manager’s proclamation terminating the civil emergency that was declared after the Nov. 2024 severe wind and storm event, commonly referred to in staff materials as a bomb cyclone.
Mike Sugg, supervisor and management analyst in the city manager’s office, told the council the city manager issued the original proclamation of civil emergency on Nov. 22, 2024, and council ratified the initial declaration at their Jan. 7 meeting. On Jan. 14 the city manager signed a proclamation terminating the civil emergency after city operations returned to a level where emergency powers were no longer necessary, Sugg said.
Council moved and seconded a motion to approve the city manager’s Jan. 14 proclamation terminating the civil emergency. The body approved the termination by voice vote and the mayor declared the motion carried.
Council did not attach conditions to the termination; staff said the city continues to manage remaining storm damage and to coordinate recovery work.
