Board approves executive session, consent agenda and names WIAA representative in unanimous votes

The Yakima School District Board of Directors recorded three formal motions and votes during its Jan. 21 meeting.
The board first voted to move into an executive session under state law, RCW 42.30.110, for 60 minutes to discuss the performance of a public employee. The motion to go into executive session was moved and seconded and the chair announced the motion “carried unanimously.” The board recessed to the executive session and returned for the scheduled business meeting at 7 p.m.
Later in the meeting, the board approved its consent agenda, which included minutes from December 2024 board meetings, notification of approval of warrants for December 2024, personnel actions and the December 2024 budget status reports. A motion to approve the consent agenda was moved and seconded and, as announced by the chair, carried without objection.
The board also appointed a WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) representative for the board. Director Norm Walker volunteered and the board moved and seconded a motion to appoint him as the board’s WIAA representative for the 2024–25 school year. The motion passed unanimously.
All three motions were announced by the chair as carrying unanimously; roll-call aye responses were recorded. No individual roll-call vote tallies by name were read into the public transcript beyond the unanimous outcomes.
