Board member Dowell reported from the ACI committee that the district plans to offer AP Capstone (AP Seminar and AP Research) for students meeting prerequisites: the seminar will begin with broad access for 10th and 11th graders in fall 2025 and AP Research will be offered beginning in the 2026-27 school year, initially in one section with teacher recommendation and application requirements. "This foundational course looks at research, writing proposals, and presentation skills," Dowell said.
Dowell also described the German exchange program, which the district has participated in since 1985 and more consistently since 2007. The exchange is open to students who have taken at least one year of German and includes living with host families and full classroom immersion; visiting partner-school students attend Montgomery schools for 10 days.
Committee members also reported revisions to the district Program of Studies for Upper Middle School and Montgomery High School. Updates aim to make the documents more user-friendly and navigable online; the FAFSA process and graduation-related information were added to the MHS materials. Some minor course-title adjustments were noted in theater arts and other elective offerings.
