Board to refine park-naming policy to emphasize local positive impact; item to return in February

The Park and Recreation Board discussed the Village of Ashwaubenon’s existing parks and facility-naming policy at its Jan. 21 meeting and asked staff to return with a minor revision that would narrow nomination criteria to persons with a positive influence within the Ashwaubenon community.
Board members noted the current policy allows for local or national prominence but does not explicitly require that a namesake’s contribution be to Ashwaubenon specifically. "I think the Ashwaubenon piece might be the crucial part because, otherwise, you leave the door open," one board member said during discussion.
Rex (Park and Recreation staff) said he would draft language to add the local-impact requirement and return the revised policy to the board at a future meeting, likely in February. No formal change to the policy was made at the Jan. 21 meeting.
