The Park and Recreation Board on Jan. 21 voted to accept the low bid from Advanced Construction to complete the flat work and utilities for the Element Way mini-park, a project that will finish concrete, lighting and site infrastructure around an already-installed playground.
Rex (Park and Recreation staff) described the bid package: the contractor will perform the concrete and flat work, set a cantilevered shade structure ordered by the village, install bollard lighting and run electrical lines, and provide plumbing and hookups for the drinking fountain. Park staff will perform landscaping and planting in-house after the hardscape and utilities are installed.
Staff reported the low bid from Advanced Construction in the meeting as $148,511.30; the board voted to accept the low bid and forward the award to the Village Board for final approval next week. No additional design elements were added at the meeting; staff said tables, bike racks and the drinking fountain have already been ordered and some materials are in stock.
Why it matters: The Element Way mini-park is intended to provide neighborhood play space and accessible seating and amenities; approving the construction contract advances the project from equipment installation to completed public use.
The board motion to accept the bid passed by voice vote; board members were unanimous in saying "aye." Staff noted the project’s landscaping and plantings will be completed by village crews after the contractor finishes site work and utilities.
