San Luis approves Westmore Electric contract to install traffic signal at County 22nd and 4th Avenue

Manuel Hernandez, Assistant Director of Public Works, said the intersection has had several severe accidents and that a traffic signal will improve safety, efficiency and traffic flow. Public Works staff said materials for the signal have arrived and that the contractor expects to complete installation about 30 days after notice to proceed.
Council members noted the installation is a temporary mitigation measure while the city proceeds with advertisement and design for full roadway improvements (additional lanes and width), which are pending right-of-way acquisition. Staff clarified the current item covers only the signal-installation work; the roadway improvements will be advertised and bid separately.
The council approved a motion to accept the services from Westmore Electric and to waive formal procurement procedures for reasons presented by staff. The motion carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: The signal is intended to immediately address safety concerns at a high-traffic intersection near a high school; staff said temporary signal installation will be followed by a separate full roadway improvement project once right-of-way is secured.
