The Board of Zoning and Planning voted to extend a temporary conditional use that allows the commercial parking lot at properties addressed 2093–2099 and 2143 East Main to remain for two years, with conditions that the city and property owner coordinate on streetside landscaping and that the owner update signage.
City staff told the board the lot was originally granted a temporary conditional use in 2007 and had not been re‑applied for annually since 2009. The property owner and applicant said the lot is used for public parking and contractor staging for nearby development, and that owner and city staff would work together to install a landscape buffer along Main Street in lieu of the code’s usual 4‑foot stone wall or metal fence plus 3‑foot landscape buffer requirement.
The board added a condition that the asphalted areas be restriped and potholes repaired to a reasonable standard of effort, noting part of the lot is gravel and full paving could be costly. The conditional use will be extended for two years, the property owner agreed to keep the lot available for public parking during the term, and the applicant must apply for updated signage permits.
Roll call voting was recorded as unanimous in favor. The board asked the owner to coordinate with the mayor’s office and city staff on a landscaping plan and to improve the lot’s surface and striping where feasible.
