Finance committee to correct salary ordinance: police sergeant count, new assistant code enforcement pay, and fire mechanic positions adjusted

The committee also discussed a planned personnel move: Brian Heider has taken the role of assistant code enforcement officer and, under the agreed terms, will continue to be paid at the same rate he received as animal control officer; staff will amend the ordinance to reflect the salary change.

Fire department leadership asked to eliminate a single chief‑mechanic position and instead create three mechanic positions (one per shift) using the same budgeted money; the committee confirmed the change and directed staff to update the ordinance so the payroll lines match the new staffing structure. Council members asked about certification and duties; staff said the department has mechanics with relevant experience and that no additional budgeted money was required — the change reallocates existing salary funds across three positions.

City staff will draft and return ordinance language reflecting the corrections and position changes for council approval.
