The City of New Carlisle council introduced three ordinances proposing amendments to the city charter and voted to move them forward for public hearing and further action.
Ordinance 2025-03 would submit proposed amendments to Article VI (Department of Public Safety and Department of Public Service) to add that the fire administrator and the Department of Public Service director "shall be appointed or terminated by the city manager with consent of council." The ordinance was introduced and council set the item to be on the ballot for the May 6 election (as stated at introduction).
Ordinance 2025-04 and Ordinance 2025-05 were introduced to propose additional charter amendments (Article 5, section 5.02 and Article 9, section 9.01 respectively). Council scheduled public hearing and action on those items for the Feb. 3 meeting, per the introductions.
Council approved the introductions with roll-call votes during the meeting; the ordinances will proceed to the posted public hearings and subsequent council action consistent with charter procedures for placing questions before voters.
