The Baltimore County Planning Board approved the Reisterstown Main Street Design Guidelines on Jan. 16, forwarding the document to County Council for review and potential inclusion in Master Plan materials.
Presenters described edits to the guidelines such as adding a paragraph to recommend design elements for new construction and infill, clarifying that primary facades should be oriented to Main Street where practicable, adding recommended landscaping guidance and revising lighting and signage review language. The updated guidelines also include an illustrative page showing potential development for the Reisterstown Business Center parcel; staff and stakeholders inserted an appendix statement that documents in the appendix are background only and not part of the design guidelines.
Board members asked whether the guidelines impose deadlines on existing businesses; staff said guidelines are advisory, and facade improvement grants may help businesses align with the guidance. After discussion a motion to approve the design guidelines as amended carried on a roll-call vote; the board will transmit the guidelines to County Council for review and adoption.
