LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. — The Lapeer County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 23 approved a slate of operational and personnel motions covering central dispatch maintenance, property repairs, contract renewals, personnel hires and a $2 million payment into the countyMERS pension fund.
The board voted by voice on a set of motions moved from committee, with commissioners calling for separate handling if any item needed further discussion. Most motions were approved by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies in the meeting record.
The motions approved included contracting work on county properties, purchases for central dispatch and routine vendor invoices. The properties committee approved Roe Engineering to complete a topographical survey north of the main building in preparation for a new CMH building at a cost of $69,100 to be paid from CMH funds. Central dispatch was authorized to proceed with basement waterproofing repairs (cost not to exceed $2,000) and to replace its UPS batteries at a cost not to exceed $33,000. On personnel and finance items, the board authorized the sheriffs department to hire a lateral corrections officer into position number 137 (pay grade 4 up to step 3) pursuant to the union letter of understanding; it also authorized the county administrator to post and advertise the upcoming vacancy for the Lapeer County health officer/director (position number 256, pay grade 28), including up to two weeks of overlap training pending state credential approval. The finance department was authorized to make a one-time payment of $2,000,000 to the Municipal Employees Retirement System (MERS) fund for specified divisions based on actuarial liabilities and valuation assets as of Dec. 31, 2023 (the meeting record corrected a fiscal-year reference from 2025 to 2024).
The board accepted an engagement letter and agreement with Manor Castortion (transcript spelling) for interim accounting and consulting services for January through March 2025 and authorized the chair to sign; the board amended that motion to cap the expenditure at a not-to-exceed $10,000. Audit motions for the county and the road commission were also approved.
