Stacy Mulroy, director of Parks and Recreation, presented the Action Sports Park and pickleball proposal for Claxton and requested design funding at the Jan. 22 CPC meeting.
Mulroy said a feasibility study was completed for $33,000 (the original request listed $35,000) and that the department is seeking $300,000 for design work for both the action sports facility and pickleball courts. "The request right now is 300,000 is for the design portion of both the Action Sports Park and the pickleball," she said. The feasibility consultant, CHA Solutions, recommended the Claxton site as the preferred location after reviewing multiple town parcels.
Mulroy said the engineers' preliminary cost estimate for both projects is about $3,000,000. Committee members asked for a detailed breakdown of the $300,000 design request and noted wetlands and DEP review will be part of the design process. Mulroy said she would obtain a line-item breakdown from the engineering firm and provide it to the committee.
The committee did not take a formal vote at the Jan. 22 meeting; the department sought CPC support to include design funding in future appropriation discussions and Town Meeting warrants.
