The Sweetwater Authority board on Jan. 8 agreed to table consideration of its fiscal-year 2024–25 contribution payment to the Water Conservation Garden to allow staff time to gather additional financial information and to confirm whether the City of San Diego will remain a JPA participant.
Assistant General Manager Lehi Yano and other directors said recent news about the City of San Diego’s financial status raised uncertainty about the Garden’s joint-powers participation and potential increased financial obligations. Directors noted they lacked follow-up materials that had been expected since the last meeting and asked staff to contact Garden representatives and San Diego financial staff to determine intentions and confirm the legal obligation to provide additional funds.
No formal payment was approved; the item was tabled for future consideration while staff collects the requested information.
