Council committee moves resolution to contract sign-language interpreters after 2024 usage

Bowers said Halcyon provided interpretation for 15 legislative-session meetings in 2024 totaling 32 hours and $5,744.81, and that the city pays mileage for interpreters. He said meetings longer than two hours generally require two interpreters, who “go back and forth and present during our legislative session meetings.”
Bowers asked whether council members had any questions and, receiving none, moved to add Resolution 3 of 2025 to the next legislative session agenda for a vote. The item will appear on the legislative docket for a formal vote at a future meeting.
The resolution, as read into the record, authorizes negotiation and execution of a professional services agreement with Halcyon Interpreting Services LLC to provide sign-language interpretation at city legislative meetings. The administration committee did not alter the contract language during the work session.
Council members who asked procedural questions did not request additional documentation; no vote was taken at the work session. The resolution will return to the council floor at the next legislative session for formal action.
