St. Mary’s County commissioners on Nov. 13 approved a $50,000 supplemental funding amendment to a memorandum of understanding with the Community Development Corporation to secure an option to purchase the Bay District property in Lexington Park.
Robin Penna‑Compton, executive director of the Community Development Corporation, presented the amendment as a step toward acquiring privately owned parcels tied to the former Lexington Manor site and advancing redevelopment negotiations with property owners. The amendment supplies $50,000 as option money to secure a purchase option pending ongoing negotiations.
Commissioners voted to authorize the county president to sign the amendment and the budget change. Supporters said the step continues a long‑running redevelopment effort and helps align public and private partners toward a planned redevelopment outside a nearby gate area.
