The Village of East Canton council approved invoices and discussed grant-writing prospects and an upcoming work session.
Under finance, the council approved invoices in the amount of $134,216.28 by vote. A roll call was recorded on the transcript. The clerk later noted payroll materials were not in the packet and will be provided for the next meeting. The council is operating under temporary appropriations until 2024 is closed out.
On grants, the mayor and council discussed responses to an online posting (Upwork) for prospective grant writers. The mayor said only a few respondents had replied; the council agreed to schedule a work session at 7 p.m. on Jan. 27 to review candidates and interview remotely or in person depending on availability. Council members expressed a preference to hire a local applicant if possible but acknowledged virtual candidates may be necessary.
Council also mentioned the county regional planning commission dinner on March 12 (cost $45) and asked members to notify staff if they wish to attend; the deadline for sign-up is March 4.
No formal hiring decisions were made at the meeting; councilors asked staff to arrange interviews and bring proposals to the work session.
