Board OKs amendment to liquor-license rules to add Sunday brunch hours

The Village Board on Jan. 21 approved Ordinance 25-5 amending Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the village code to establish the number and hours of available liquor licenses, including an option for Sunday brunch service.
The motion was moved by Ed Muncy and seconded by Tom; the board voted by roll call and the ordinance passed with all recorded votes in favor.
One of the applicants, identified in the meeting as Kim, explained the requested change was to allow Sunday brunch service on occasions such as early-game gatherings, European soccer broadcasts, funeral luncheons and baptisms. "We just wanted to add the brunch license on Sunday because we just keep everything the same every day as far as when we open," Kim said, adding that the change was not intended to create a regular early-service schedule but to allow occasional earlier service for special events.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about whether the license would create regular Sunday breakfast service; Kim said the intent was limited to special occasions and to keep serving hours consistent across days. The roll-call votes recorded "aye" from Trustees Munsey, Williams, Boettner, Berson and McAlvey. Trustee Millett was absent.
The ordinance amends local code language governing the number and hours of liquor licenses; no fee changes were proposed and the presenters indicated they did not intend to add Sunday service as a regular revenue source. The board closed discussion and approved the ordinance.
