Susan Ragsdale addressed the Rancho Mirage City Council during non-agenda public comment and described a personal housing dispute that she said began in January 2020 and left her at risk of homelessness.
Ragsdale said she submitted an eight-page report to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and provided printed copies to council members. She said she has been living in dire circumstances and that, unless the situation changes by Feb. 15, she expects to become homeless and live in her car with her dog. Ragsdale said she is 73 years old, disabled, and without savings or assets. She also described a sequence of events she characterized as fraudulent harassment and alleged the city and other parties were involved in decisions that deprived her of housing.
Ragsdale asked for the council’s help and said she felt ignored in prior attempts to resolve the issue. She distributed materials to council members and thanked them for allowing extra time to present her statement. The council did not take action during the meeting in response to Ragsdale’s comments; the matter was presented as a public comment rather than an agenda item or request for a specific council motion.
The council thanked Ragsdale for her comments and accepted the hand-delivered materials.
