Board approves intergovernmental agreement to send student to Hinsdale District 86 program

The Batavia USD 101 Board of Education voted on Jan. 21 to approve an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Hinsdale Township High School District 86 that will allow a Batavia student to attend a specialized public program in Hinsdale.
Brad Newkirk, the district’s special education staff member who introduced the item, said the IEP team recommended the outplacement because the program at Hinsdale 86 best meets the student’s specific needs. He described the arrangement as an intergovernmental partnership; the agreement will go to Hinsdale’s board for acceptance and will be reviewed by the student’s IEP team at least annually.
Board member Sue (surname not specified in the record) moved approval and RJ Mathis seconded. The board approved the IGA in a roll-call vote (see vote record). Newkirk confirmed transportation for the placement had been arranged and said the IGA includes an option for renewal based on student needs rather than a fixed expiration date.
The board discussed the timeline briefly; Newkirk said the placement would begin as soon as administrative approvals and arrangements were in place and that the student’s progress would be reviewed at regular IEP intervals.
