District staff presented the mid-year Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) update, describing the district’s two overarching goals — supporting academic rigor and promoting whole-learner social-emotional development — the metrics used to measure progress and the actions in place to achieve outcomes.
The presenter said the LCAP is developed on a three-year cycle and was approved in June; state statute requires an annual update and a mid‑year review. The first goal focuses on academic measures — district reading assessments (DRA), MAP scores, dashboard academic indicators, English learner progress and reclassification rates, access to standards-aligned materials and assessment of pre-K learners. Action items tied to Goal 1 include recruitment and retention of certificated staff, support for intern teachers, maintaining class-size averages (target mentioned as about 20:1), AVID implementation and instructional assistants for primary and special education programs, plus support for dual-language immersion and online courseware.
Goal 2 covers social-emotional learning, attendance, suspension/expulsion and dropout rates and spring survey results for students, staff and parents. Action items include school counselors or social workers at every campus, access to a school resource officer, expanded learning opportunities (GEL after school), environmental/outdoor and visual and performing arts coordination, and a districtwide social-emotional curriculum. Staff noted some state datasets and spring survey results were not yet available and will be populated when released; an annual update of progress will be provided at the end of the school year.
Board members asked clarifying questions about measuring parent engagement (staff said surveys and Synergy usage are metrics) and other indicators. No action was required; the presentation was informational.
