The Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical School Committee on Jan. 23 voted to approve an out-of-state travel request for the school’s dance team to attend the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida, scheduled for Jan. 31–Feb. 2, 2025.
Assistant Superintendent/Principal Michael Barton presented the request and said the total trip cost is $18,804.88. The team raised $7,782.80 (including a parent-organization donation), leaving a district share of $11,022.08 (computed from the figures presented). Coach Luca Brass and student representatives described the championship as a high-profile competition that can provide scholarship exposure; they noted some team members have never flown or performed on such a large stage.
The committee approved the travel by voice vote after a motion and second; members wished the team luck and requested broadcast details so the school community could watch the event. The superintendent said the school would share viewing information once available.
