Two seniors were named 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholar nominees in career technical education; the district received a $5,000 CTE grant and accepted a donated 1996 Camaro for the automotive program. The committee also reviewed cooperative education participation figures.
Superintendent representatives recognized two seniors from Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School as nominees for the 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars program in the career technical education category.
Madison Cozza, a senior in the information technology program, and Nicholas Mraz, a senior in the CAD program, were introduced and given certificates of recognition. The superintendent described the nominations as “a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the excellence that they have demonstrated.”
The committee was also informed that the school received a $5,000 career and technical education grant to buy supplies for the automotive technology shop’s after-school program. Separately, the committee approved acceptance of a donated 1996 Chevrolet Camaro convertible valued at $500 to be used for educational training in the automotive program; the superintendent said components that could be used or sold will be rendered unusable before disposal once training is complete.
Administrators presented a cooperative education report showing that 243 seniors were participating in the cooperative education program at the end of December. The superintendent later reported the current count is 249 senior students participating out of a class of 562, equal to 44 percent of the Class of 2025. The superintendent thanked staff members Stacy Besantzen, Brian Jones and technical instructors for supporting cooperative placements.
Quotes from students and staff were offered during the recognition segment and the committee took the item as informational before moving on to other business.
