The Merrimack Town Council reiterated key dates for the municipal warrant and budget process at its Jan. 22 budget hearing. Council members and staff told residents that petition warrant articles are due to the town manager’s office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, while petition bond articles must be filed by Feb. 7.
Those filing non-money petition warrant articles are advised to consult the town charter for signature thresholds that govern whether an article goes before the council for a public hearing or directly to the ballot. The council also noted a public hearing on the town budget is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Matthew Thornton room, followed by the town’s deliberative session on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the James Mascola Upper Elementary School multipurpose room. The annual town election and ballot vote is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at three polling locations around town.
Town staff encouraged anyone planning petition articles to meet the filing deadlines and to contact the manager’s office with questions about signature thresholds and article types. Councilors also said interactive budget sheets were available on USB and that council members could request cost runs and department responses in advance of the council’s Jan. 29 deliberations.
The calendar announcements closed with the council scheduling completion of budget deliberations to begin at its Jan. 29 meeting and a request to postpone formal consideration of proposed debt issuance until that same Jan. 29 meeting.
