Kent City Council on Jan. 21 approved a two‑year goods and services agreement with Consolidated Press LLC to print and mail the Kent Parks recreation guides for 2025 and 2026.
Haley Elliott, marketing and engagement coordinator for Kent Parks, told council the city selected Consolidated Press through a competitive RFP. The contract covers printing and mailing services for the next two years, which will produce six quarterly issues (spring/summer, fall and winter for both years). The two‑year contract locks in pricing to mitigate continued cost escalation.
Elliott said guides are produced in‑house for content and design but cannot be printed in sufficient volume by city staff due to the scale of the runs. She said each quarterly guide is mailed to roughly 80,000 homes — about 78,000 within the city/Kent School District boundary and roughly 2,000 to subscribers outside the city — and additional copies are distributed at city facilities, including Kent Commons and the Kent Senior Activity Center. Printing and mailing costs are covered by the Parks budget and included in the adopted 2025–26 budget.
A council motion authorized the mayor to sign the agreement subject to final terms acceptable to the parks director and city attorney. The motion passed on a voice vote.
