The Nantucket Conservation Commission opened a public hearing Jan. 23 solely to select a special-meeting date for Scauncey Beach Preservation Fund, application SC 483736, and set the hearing for Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. until completion.
The action followed confusion among parties about whether applicants had requested a continuance to Feb. 6 and a short debate about available dates. Chair Seth Engaboor opened the hearing “for the sole purpose of finding a date for a special hearing,” and commissioners ran through several possible dates and times before settling on Feb. 13.
Will (staff) told the commission that the applicants’ team had indicated a preference for a 10 a.m.–noon special-meeting window. Chair Engaboor summarized the options to the applicants and said he was prepared to continue the matter to Feb. 13 if the applicants agreed.
Vince Murphy, representing the applicant group, confirmed availability on Feb. 13. “We can continue to the February 13th special meeting,” Chair Engaboor said after consulting applicants, and the commission recorded the continuance.
The commission made the continuance formal by motion and roll-call vote; the meeting notice in the commission’s packet will be updated to reflect the Feb. 13 date and 10 a.m. start. Staff said it would post the updated packet and hearing materials online once they are available.
Because the Jan. 23 session was limited to scheduling the hearing, no testimony on the merits of the Scauncey Beach Preservation Fund application was taken at this opening. The commission advised applicants and the public that the Feb. 13 session will be the date for substantive testimony and directed staff to ensure packet materials are circulated in advance.
