Board amends academic calendar to add two instructional makeup days in May

The Henderson County Board of Education approved a superintendent recommendation to amend the 2024‑25 academic calendar to make May 21 and May 22 instructional days to replace missed days from Jan. 7 and Jan. 8.
District instructional leader Miss Wolfe explained the change will make May 22 the last student day for 2024‑25 and May 23 the final staff closing day. The amendment was framed as preserving instructional continuity while also attempting to maintain a planned break later in the year; the administration noted built‑in relief days in late February and early March to reduce staff fatigue during the long winter testing period.
Board members voted by voice and indicated unanimous support for the calendar amendment. The district said it will communicate the date changes to parents and staff following the board’s approval.
The amendment reflects the district’s use of two snow/NTI days earlier in the winter and is intended to preserve the planned instructional minutes required by state guidance.
