The Bonney Lake City Council approved Resolution R2502, authorizing a professional services agreement with Gunderson Law Office, PLLC to provide prosecution services for the city.
City Attorney Jennifer Robertson explained the city’s two prosecuting attorneys left in late November and early December, and the firm Inslee Best had been filling in on an interim basis. Robertson told the council hiring Gunderson Law Office as an outside contractor would save the city approximately $150,000 compared with hiring two in-house prosecuting attorneys. She also said Gunderson was the sole proposer to a request for proposals issued on December 10; proposals were due January 3.
Council member Hummer asked whether the action was needed because the city currently has no prosecutor; Robertson confirmed. The council opened the item to public comment and received none. A motion to adopt the resolution was made and seconded; members voted aye when the mayor pro tem called for the question and the mayor pro tem declared the motion carried. No roll-call vote tally was recorded in the minutes.
The contract will engage the Gunderson firm’s principals, identified in the agenda materials as Will and Ira Gunderson, who have provided interim coverage for the city in the past. Council member Baldwin stated support for the decision, noting anticipated administrative and cost advantages over in-house hires.
