Board approves East Heights renovation after electrical bid, revises total project to $25.4 million

The Henderson County Board of Education approved the electrical subcontract bid and a revised BG‑1 for the East Heights Elementary renovation during its Jan. 21 meeting, revising the project total to $25,413,238.

Jeanne, a representative of RBS who filled in for absent project staff, reported that an electrical bid was submitted by Industrial Electrical Supply (IES) in the amount read into the record as "4,000,000,245." The board recorded a construction total for East Heights of "21,000,000 053" in the BG materials and then voted to approve a revised BG‑1 that includes the electrical work and other components, bringing the total to $25,413,238.

Superintendent Dr. Bob Lawson told the board that the district expects the renovated East Heights facility to serve the community long term and that the work constitutes a substantial investment in classrooms, ADA access and building systems. The board approved the electrical bid on the superintendent’s recommendation and later approved the revised BG‑1 by voice vote; members indicated unanimous support.

Separately under new business the board approved BG 25‑251, a package of fence replacements and additions across several campuses (including new fencing at the football stands, track perimeter, chiller pad, softball field, and other sites). The board also approved the architect owner agreement and the construction drawings submitted in support of the fencing work.

Board members did not record any opposing votes on the East Heights approvals; the superintendent and project representatives said the scope and costs were in line with expectations for the renovation.

The materials presented to the board included a list of bids, the BG‑1 and BG‑24/25 forms and will be filed with the district’s project records.
