Opelika CRA approves $30,000 microgrant for commercial enhancement at OCARA property

On Jan. 22, 2025 the Opelika Community Redevelopment Agency approved a resolution authorizing the executive director to establish and issue a $30,000 microbusiness grant for commercial enhancement at a property in the OCARA area that will host the Award Excellence Group apprenticeship program.
Board Member Taylor moved the resolution and Vice Chair Williams seconded; the board voted 7–0 to approve the grant. The director described the grant as funding painting, interior work and exterior painting at the business address; the amount cited by staff was $30,000.
Board members had no substantive questions and asked staff to proceed with the grant terms and execution. The director said the microgrant would support the commercial tenant’s improvements and apprenticeship activities in the CRA area.
