Yukon commission: Yukon Parkway work to be bid in February; damaged traffic signal repaired

The Yukon Traffic Commission on Jan. 21 approved its Dec. 10, 2024, minutes and received updates on Yukon Parkway construction scheduling and recent equipment and enforcement activity.
The commission was told staff plans to advertise the Yukon Parkway project for bid in February, with utility work by OG&E and a bore contractor likely delaying the contractor's start until about March. "We're gonna try to get that out for bid in the next month, I believe, next in February," a commission speaker said during the meeting. Commissioners were told the city will notify potential contractors that work cannot begin until utility work is complete.
Commissioners were also briefed on a traffic signal problem at Yukon Parkway. Arnold, a staff member who reported on the issue, said one camera and a processor at the intersection had been out and that crews repaired the equipment the morning of Jan. 21. "As of this morning, it's all back to normal," Arnold said. He told the commission a trackhoe boom contacting electrical wiring had caused nearly $10,000 in damage to the traffic-control box.
The commission heard that OG&E has been installing poles in the project corridor and expects some underground bore work to be finished by about March 1. Staff estimated, if utility work is complete, construction could start by mid-summer; the commission was told a formal bid package will specify start-date constraints to coordinate with utilities.
Members also discussed prior speed studies and enforcement. Commissioner Peters praised police enforcement: "So kudos to the police department," he said, noting officers had been conducting speed enforcement in several locations. Commissioners mentioned a speed-trailer deployment at Dover Mansion that police reinstalled after council discussion; the council previously declined to take action on the matter, staff said.
The commission set its next meeting for Feb. 11, 2025, and closed the meeting after the agenda items were addressed.
