Presenters said retesters will have another opportunity in April (English I on April 8, English II on April 10, biology on April 15, U.S. history on April 16 and algebra I on April 23) and may also test in June; the district provides after‑school and Saturday intervention sessions. Semester exams administered in December were described as being constructed from released STAR items to mirror state testing and to surface curriculum or instructional changes needed before spring testing.
Board members asked for clarifications during the presentation. Trustee Shirley Ibarra queried why a small number of ninth graders appeared on retester lists for some exams; staff clarified those students are behind in credits and are being provided additional supports. Trustee Manuel Lopez and others praised the administration and academic staff for measurable gains after multi‑year curriculum work.
Superintendent-level staff recommended approval of the LSG student outcome goal report; the motion to approve passed unanimously on roll call.
The presentation noted ongoing work: continued curriculum writing in year three, targeted support for specific campuses (named Armstrong in the presentation), use of an AI-assisted tool for grading short constructed responses to mimic state grading, and attendance-incentive programs. The district also plans to apply for a waiver for low attendance on Jan. 9 due to cold weather, according to the presentation.
