John Mysiak of Woodlake raised concerns during the public‑comment period at the Moore County Board of Commissioners meeting on Jan. 7 about possible disparities in property assessments.
Mysiak said state law requires counties to reassess property values at least every eight years and noted Moore County currently reassesses every four years. He told commissioners he had reviewed sales and assessed values and found what he described as a pricing disparity between market sales and assessed values: "Homes in the 3 to 500000 range have been selling for from 8 to 12% above assessed values. Homes in the 1,000,000 and over range have been selling for more than 40% above assessed values," he said.
Mysiak asked the county tax office to review sales of existing homes by price range (he suggested several ranges, including $200k–$400k, $400k–$600k, $600k–$800k, $800k–$1,000,000, and over $1,000,000) for the past year to determine whether reassessment frequency should be adjusted so assessments remain equitable across market segments.
Ending: Commissioners acknowledged the comment; no formal action or response from tax staff was recorded on the transcript. Mysiak's request was delivered as public comment for the board's consideration.
