Summary
The Plano ISD Board of Trustees voted 7-0 on Jan. 21 to approve the district's 2026-27 academic calendar after staff said the schedule was vetted with parents, teachers and advisory groups and that the March break was moved later in March.
The Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Jan. 21 to approve the 2026-27 academic calendar, moving a spring break day to late March and preserving a calendar structure staff said families and staff value for consistency.
Leslie Range Stanton, the staff presenter, said the calendar draft had been vetted with district groups including the PLEC group, cabinet, the Teacher Leader Council, the superintendent's student advisory council and PTAs, and that a parent survey had informed final refinements. "We would like to present the calendar for your approval this evening," Stanton told trustees.
Stanton said a common concern was the timing of the March break; staff moved the Friday off to March 26 and the following Monday so the district's professional learning days and testing calendar still align. She told trustees the calendar follows a similar pattern to the prior two years and that community members appreciated that predictability.
Trustee Dr. Lauren Tyra moved to approve the 2026-27 calendar; Angela Powell seconded. Chair Nancy Humphrey called the vote and announced a unanimous 7-0 approval.
What this means - The approved calendar will be used for the 2026-27 school year. Staff said the timing offers consistency with recent years and allows planning time for families and staff. - Staff explicitly said they could not shift the year's start day from Wednesday to Tuesday without losing necessary professional learning alignment and balanced days for testing and instruction.
Procedural note: the board approved the item after a motion and a brief discussion; no amendments to the calendar were made at the meeting.
