PERRYTON ISD superintendent announces multiple resignations, two retirements and an interim principal

During the superintendent’s report to the PERRYTON ISD Board of Trustees, the superintendent announced a string of staff resignations and retirements and named an interim principal for one campus.
The superintendent read the list of resignations and retirements: Sean Tevis (art, high school); Debbie Herbert (math, high school); Lori Stallings (English language arts, Williams); Kevin Black (social studies, junior high); Amy Deer (special education, Williams); Reed Cates (Williams principal; retiring at the end of the year); Lisa Kemp (retiring at the end of the year); Alan Kemp (retiring at the end of the year); Teresa Childress (principal at Kinder, resignation announced); and Maribel Murillo (ELAR and special education, Louis Pena).
The superintendent said the board had approved resignation incentives earlier and that many of the resignations reflected retirements by veteran teachers and staff. He told the board that Kelly Cates would serve as interim principal at Kinder; the superintendent said Kelly Cates, who is Reed Cates’ wife and has prior principal experience, had her first day at Kinder earlier the same day and that the superintendent had checked in with her after school.
Board members offered thanks and praise for the departing staff during the administrative reports portion of the meeting. The superintendent said campus staffing adjustments are underway and that the district is working through replacements and other transitions for the coming school year.
