Boys & Girls Club seeks $150,000 to renovate space for preschool and program expansion

The Boys & Girls Club asked the Contract Review Committee on Jan. 17 for $150,000 to renovate two underused locker rooms into classroom and changing-space facilities for its new Club Junior preschool program and for expanded space for its general youth population.

Nicole (assistant director of advancement) said the preschool runs Monday–Friday from about 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; the club is currently licensed for 20 preschool children and planners expect enrollment to grow (she said they expected to reach six children by the end of the month). The renovation would create a secure enclosed flex space, plus updated changing stalls and single-occupancy bathrooms to meet young-child needs.

Nut graf: The committee questioned timing, utilization and cost per child, and discussed scaling options. Members noted that CRC funding tends to favor direct-service cost effectiveness; club representatives argued the renovation would serve both preschoolers and the club’s roughly 350 daily members by freeing and improving spaces used across cohorts.

Nicole said the project would remove security friction points for cohorts, allow simultaneous activities, and provide privacy for preschoolers who need changing facilities. The club said if CRC funding is partial it could pare back the scope but that full funding would speed the renovation.
