Snoqualmie, North Bend near deal to update interlocal police services agreement; final steps expected next week

Snoqualmie and North Bend officials said Tuesday that negotiations over an amendment to the 2019 interlocal agreement for shared police services are largely finished and that North Bend will take a final step on the amendment at its meeting tonight.
City Administrator Chambliss told the Snoqualmie Public Safety Committee that the cities have been renegotiating the interlocal agreement and that "North Bend has made an offer to this 12.9% change while we wrap up these negotiations." He said both cities developed a work plan over the coming months and that Snoqualmie staff recommend bringing the instrument to the full Snoqualmie City Council for execution next Monday, noting the text could change slightly between tonight and the council meeting.
The matter drew North Bend elected officials to Snoqualmie’s committee meeting. Mayor Mary Miller and North Bend council members emphasized the value of a joint police force for valley-wide public safety and thanked Snoqualmie leaders for working toward a final agreement. Mayor Miller said face-to-face meetings help keep the partnership constructive.
Committee Chair Rob Wotton said the combined force provides important coverage for valley nights and encouraged council members to schedule police ride-alongs to better understand operational needs.
Committee members and staff also agreed to a joint Public Safety Committee meeting with North Bend when the police chief delivers his annual report, and the committee expects to return to the full Snoqualmie council following North Bend’s action.
What happens next: North Bend is expected to ratify or finalize its internal step tonight; Snoqualmie staff plan to place the amended agreement (agenda bill AB 25-002) on the Snoqualmie City Council agenda for consideration next Monday. No formal Snoqualmie council vote on the amendment occurred during the committee meeting; the committee deferred the final action to the respective councils.
