Council approves two-year interlocal with Skagit County for digital imagery services

The Mount Vernon City Council on Jan. 22 authorized the mayor to enter into a two-year interlocal agreement with Skagit County for digital imagery services, with a not-to-exceed amount of $20,000 for the biennium.
Nut graf: Public Works staff said the city has partnered with Skagit County for over 10 years to obtain digital imagery used in geographic information systems (GIS). The interlocal approach pools demand across municipalities to reduce costs for mapping and GIS-dependent services.
Public Works Director Chris Phillips explained the arrangement and said similar joint purchases produce cost savings for municipalities. "This is a process that we've done for a few years...it's a 2 year contract, it's not to exceed $20,000 within that biennium and we've again partnered with them for over 10 years," Phillips said.
A motion to authorize the agreement was made by Council member Mary and seconded by Navarre; the council approved the interlocal by voice vote. Staff said the imagery products are integral to GIS services used by the city and other county jurisdictions and will be managed through the Public Works Department.
