The Mount Vernon City Council on Jan. 22 authorized change order No. 1 with Valdez Construction for tenant improvements to the Hillcrest Recreation Building, reducing the bundled contract and approving a revised amount that staff presented to the council.

Phillips told the council staff recommends authorizing the mayor to execute change order No. 1 with Valdez Construction, "reducing the contract amount to $159,323.38, which includes sales tax." He described bundling administrative costs across two projects as the reason some line-item costs appeared higher in earlier estimates and said buying in bulk produced savings.
Council member Gary moved to adopt the change order; the motion was seconded by Navarre (identified in the record as the second). The council approved the motion by voice vote.
The council did not adopt additional changes to scope or scheduling during the meeting; staff will implement the amended contract per the city’s procurement and contract-administration processes.
