King County judge briefs Redmond council on caseloads, community court and mental‑health work

Chief Presiding Judge Rebecca Robertson of King County District Court told the Redmond City Council on Tuesday that the county court system handles about 200,000 cases a year and that the Redmond courthouse plays a central role in addressing cases tied to substance use, mental health and domestic violence.

“About 75% of the cases that we see involve substance use or mental health issues,” Robertson said, summarizing the court’s caseload and the problem‑solving approach King County uses. She described the Redmond Community Court as a regional model and listed a range of services the court provides, including judge‑supervised probation, treatment courts and in‑court access to community resources.
