Harnett County commissioners approve minutes, appointments, IT contract and animal shelter land funding; joint resolution on school polling sites fails

The Harnett County Board of Commissioners approved routine minutes, budget items and a number of administrative actions during its Jan. 21 meeting.The board approved meeting minutes for Jan. 6 and Jan. 14, accepted budget amendments and approved tax rebates, refunds and releases. The board approved a three‑year Barracuda Premium Plus Protection contract for the county Information Technology Department, to be billed one‑third each year for three years.
Commissioners approved the reappointment of Douglas Godwin to the Board of Equalization and Review, reappointed Lee Marshall and Eric Julian to the Angier Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, and approved the appointment of Becky Wise to the Good Hope Board to serve as the Harnett County Department of Social Services representative. The board approved an amendment to a project ordinance to budget funds for land acquisition required for a new animal shelter and adopted a related reimbursement resolution; the transcript did not specify the dollar amounts for that land acquisition.
During public comment five citizens spoke. Under new business the board discussed a joint resolution with the Harnett County Board of Education requesting that schools be removed from voting sites; the resolution was not approved because it did not receive a unanimous vote and will be brought back to a future meeting. There was no closed session. The board announced that the next work session is scheduled for Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. and the next regular board meeting will be Feb. 3 at 9 a.m.
