Moscow — The Moscow School District Board of Trustees approved revisions to policy 5157.00 on Jan. 22 to clarify student-owned electronic-device rules and to allow building principals to temporarily waive or modify restrictions for educational purposes.
Under the revision, principals may authorize limited, time‑bound classroom uses of devices that have an educational purpose; blanket or indefinite exceptions are not contemplated. Trustees removed a standalone five-school-day appeal clause that previously appeared in the policy and noted that standard student disciplinary appeal rights remain available under the district discipline policy.
The board adopted the change by voice vote (5–0) and directed administrators to begin implementation the week after spring break to allow staff and parents time for communication and a short pilot period.
Superintendent Sean Teague and trustees discussed communication plans and agreed to a phased rollout, with messaging to parents and staff prior to the effective date.
