Blasting advisory board reports progress, urges regional coordination and state action

The Blasting Advisory Board (BAB) presented its annual report to the Town Council, described continuing outreach to other affected municipalities and the state legislature, and requested council support for several procedural and budget items.
BAB members said they attended a workshop in Tallahassee last year and that outreach to other local governments (Miramar, Homestead, Doral and others) is yielding opportunities to coordinate ordinance language and public education. Past BAB chair Miguel Martinez said Miami‑Dade County has started evaluating countywide blasting ordinances and the BAB will maintain contact to share technical data and recommendations.
The board requested that the council consider reinstating an older committee attendance rule (three unexcused absences removed a member) to keep the small committee quorum-ready, and asked for limited authority to move some travel budget toward workshops and outreach. Council members said the attendance rules matter and that a proposed committee-rules change will be discussed with committee chairs at an upcoming quarterly meeting.
