Coach urges Plainfield 202 to consider IESA membership to boost student participation

Tammy Eigenbauer, the head boys bowling coach at Plainfield North High School, used the Jan. 22 public‑comment period to urge the Board of Education to consider district participation in the IESA. Eigenbauer said the association gives students who lack skills time to develop before interscholastic competition and cited other nearby districts that participate.
"I know Shorewood ... Lincoln Way schools have it. And if you look at their schools and their participation and their scores, it is astronomical what that participation can do not just for bowling, but for all of the sports that our district offers that the IESA is a part of," Eigenbauer said.
Eigenbauer said she and other local coaches had discussed the possibility and that she hoped the board would "strongly consider it." Board members said they would follow up and provide additional information to coaches and athletic staff.
