Council issues proclamations for MLK Day, Lunar New Year and Human Trafficking Awareness Month

The Fairfield City Council presented three ceremonial proclamations during its Jan. 21 meeting: January 20, 2025 as Martin Luther King Jr. Day; January 29, 2025 as Lunar New Year (Year of the Wood Snake); and January 2025 as Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month.
Councilmember Kay Patrice Williams read the MLK proclamation and presented it to Nikkila Gibson and the Tri City NAACP. James Holiday, vice president of the Tri City NAACP, accepted the proclamation and called for ongoing action to address food access, school-quality concerns and homelessness.
Councilmember (name on record) presented the Lunar New Year proclamation to CC Yin, founder and chair of Asian Pacific American Public Affairs and the Chinese Association of Solano County; the proclamation noted Fairfield’s Asian and Pacific Islander population and encouraged schools to teach about Lunar New Year traditions.
Mayor Catherine Moy presented a proclamation recognizing Human Trafficking Awareness Month to Melissa Nixon, victim services director for SANE/SART. Nixon described SANE/SART’s local services and said the organization assisted “over a 100 victims” this year, providing 24‑hour support, a safe house and coordinated responses with law enforcement.
The proclamations are ceremonial and do not carry policy change; they were accepted by representatives of the recipient organizations.
