Hawaiian Gardens approves Castle Amusements contract for April 2025 city anniversary carnival

The Hawaiian Gardens City Council voted Jan. 22 to approve a contract with Castle Amusements to provide rides, games and services for the 2025 city anniversary carnival. Staff said the three-day event is scheduled for Friday, April 11, through Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Ferguson Elementary School.
City staff described the contract as a full-service carnival proposal that would provide 12 to 15 rides, food booths, three to six game booths, power for booths, professional staff and vendor coordination. Staff said the city budgeted $100,000 for the event and estimated it would collect about $30,000 in ticket sales after fees. "The event will be held at Ferguson Elementary School and consists of a 3 day carnival, including live entertainment, food booth, games, vendors, informational booths, and carnival rides," a staff member said during the meeting.
Council members asked follow-up questions about whether the budget included the parade (staff said the parade is a separate line item) and about prior presale-ticket fundraising for nonprofits; staff said in prior years the city returned about $18,000 to nonprofit organizations that sold presale tickets. Staff also said the principal at Ferguson Elementary approved the proposed dates and that insurance and required applications had been completed.
Council moved to approve the contract; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Council Member Farfan, Council Member Roa, Council Member Vargas, Mayor Pro Tem Del Rio and Mayor DePaola voting yes.
