Hawaiian Gardens accepts residential slurry-seal project; final construction cost $588,273.88

The Hawaiian Gardens City Council on Jan. 22 accepted construction improvements for the fiscal year 2022–23 residential street slurry-seal project and authorized the city clerk to file the notice of completion for the work by All American Asphalt.
City staff said the council approved project plans on July 24, 2024, to slurry-seal 32 residential streets; the original low bid was $514,600 and a 15% construction contingency raised the total construction budget to $591,600. Construction began in October 2024 and was completed in January 2025. "The project was successfully completed on time and within budget with a final construction cost of $588,273.88 and total cost saving of $6,982.90," staff member Neema said during the meeting.
Neema told the council the project scope included slurry sealing, striping removal and replacement, adjustment of manholes, removal and replacement of four existing speed radar signs and installation of six new speed radar signs, traffic control and other incidental items identified in the project specifications.
Council members moved to accept the improvements and authorized filing the notice of completion; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Council Member Farfan, Council Member Roa, Council Member Vargas, Mayor Pro Tem Del Rio and Mayor DePaola voting yes.
The city clerk will file the notice of completion as the formal closing step for the contract with All American Asphalt.
