Page County Fair Board seeks continued $16,500 support for operations; proposes roof repairs and campground

Jason Whitmus, Page County Fair Board manager, told the Board of Supervisors the fair board submitted a budget for the next fiscal year and described projects completed and planned. “We extended onto the sheep barn, due to a need. Lot of exhibitors of sheep and goats, so we got that accomplished,” Whitmus said.
Whitmus described upcoming work the board is seeking, including reroofing Whippam Hall’s east and south wings and replacing worn tenting. He said the board has insurance proceeds from a spring storm that “is on the way” but that bids are still being sought. Whitmus said the fair board will hold a spring fundraiser March 22 at Webb Home, a sit-down dinner with a live auction, to raise funds for projects.
On recurring operating support, Whitmus said, “Our hope is at least the the 165, like, every year.” The fair board discussed returning to the typical annual county contribution of about $16,500 after an additional one-time $20,000 provided last year. Whitmus said the board is also exploring adding a campground area to the fairgrounds as a year-round revenue source.
Fair board members present included Carrie Gonder, vice president, and Kyle Pirtle, past vice president. The presentation was informational; supervisors did not take a formal vote or set a funding amount at the meeting.
